Yet another perfect way to escape from the hustles of the City and stress from work. Moalboal, Cebu has been known for its beautiful white sand beaches and diving sites but we are going to focus only to the areas that we can explore during the pescador island hopping adventure.
Snorkeling at Pescador island will be our first itinerary for this trip. To give a brief facts about the island itself, Pescador island is located along the tañon strait, just a approximately 5.5 kilometers away from the coast lines of barangay panagsama, moalboal and just around 15-20 minutes boat ride (via motorized boat) from the coast line. This is somehow in between Cebu province and Negros Oriental probably between 40 – 50 kilometers away from the coast lines of Jimalalud town of Negros Oriental.
Unlike other islands, pescador island does not have a white sand beach though but it still have a lot to offer. I’m not going to dig into the diving part here but even though we will just be doing the snorkeling, you can still see the beautiful corals and with lots of small fishes of different varieties and colors. Someone commented on me for bringing sky flakes (biscuits) while doing the snorkeling to feed the fishes but feeding them will bring them out of the corals. Aside from the corals and the fishes, it really felt good swimming on the cold and very clear bluish waters. Having a lot of color fishes around me while swimming is just a bonus for me.
The sea turtle bay or sea turtle watching
Along the way from Pescador island going back to the coast line of Moalboal, there are couple of times we saw sea turtles just floating around and moved only when the boat is near. But that is not where we will find sea turtles though. A few meters away from the coast line is where it usually stays. This is not the same with our sea turtle watching experience in Apo island where you can almost touch the sea turtles but watching them from a few meters is still satisfying. While snorkeling to find sea turtles, we have also seen a lot a fishes small ones and bigger ones of different variety as well.
The Sardines Run or snorkeling with sardines fish
Personally, this is the best one for me since I have not done this in any other place yet. Though I have tried swimming with sardines fish in Siquijor a couple of times in a summer during my colleges days but that was still different since there were nets involve (peace). What’s really making the sardines run a must-try adventure, is the beauty of the forms they can create when they move. As if they are synchronized or something, that every time you swim near them, they will form something else and at the same time moving farther from you or maintaining its distance from you.
